Our Habitat Homeowners

To become a Habitat homeowner a family must complete an application and pass a family selection process.  Applications are taken at an annual Application Meeting.  We select prospective homeowners on the basis of need, ability to pay for their house, and willingness to partner with Habitat.  Habitat offers a "hand up", not a "hand out".  Each prospective homeowner must invest 500 hours of "sweat equity" labor in building his/her own home or another Habitat house.  He/she must pay a small down payment when his/her house is completed and must faithfully make his/her monthly mortgage payments thereafter.  Prolonged failure to meet this financial obligation may result in loss of a house.

Our program consists entirely of building homes with and for deserving needy families.  A part of our ministry is to continue to support and mentor them in their new roles as homeowners and taxpayers as long as needed.  We counsel homeowners in legal, financial, and practical aspects of homeownership.
